The bugles sounded, the band played, and the flag was raised. Thus began my birthday yesterday, and it was the best birthday I’ve had in many years.
The bugles, band and flag were actually to celebrate Mexico’s Flag Day, as I wrote below, but Andrew and I joked that all of Guadalajara, and indeed all of Mexico, celebrate my birthday.
Yesterday we got up a bit earlier than usual and drove to the Metro station, which we rode downtown. After the Flag Day celebration, we rode the Metro back to where we left our car and had a light lunch at Burger King. I do like their malts.
The rest of the day was full of fun things, though Andrew had to work for three hours. We had a pleasantly relaxing day. We watched a romantic movie, Without Reservations. We had homemade tamales for dinner and popcorn with the movie. Andrew hand selected and arranged a beautiful flower bouquet for me. And the day ended with a soak in the hot tub.
