New Zealand Tsunami 7 July 2011

The earthquake near the Kermadec Islands north of New Zealand was supposed to cause a tsunami here in New Zealand. For some reason, the tsunami didn’t materialize. Waves up to about one meter (about three feet) were expected, but the New Zealand Civil Defence later canceled the warning.

We are fine. Even if there had been a tsunami, our little bay is well protected by the angle of the Firth of Thames, and our villa home is about twenty meters above sea level.
